Medigap policies exist to support Medicare policies that may fall short in certain areas where you happen to need more coverage. This is no different when your insurance involves Tricare and a Medicare policy that needs assistance. We will attempt to break this down a little further to make sense of the situation that we face.
First, understand that your Medicare is primary just like it would be for any other Medigap policy as Medigap, or Tricare, is purchased for supplementary insurance. Second, understand that when Medicare is unable to step up and provide coverage but Tricare does it will step in and “walk the dog” for you. Tricare is your insurance savior just like Medigap is.
So in order for your Tricare to step in when Medicare doesn’t you still have to have a Medicare claim filed first. Once that claim is rejected or not covered it will slide over to being on your Tricare policy. You will then pay the Tricare deductible and they will step in as if they were your primary insurance company from the start.
