Senior citizen’s needs are not well met by the home health care benefits available today. One third of men and one half of women of 65 years of age will be sent to a nursing home in the remainder of theri days. Older citizens have a greater chance of going to a nursing home.
Skilled medical care needs to be provided to people being discharged from hospital. This is much cheaper in a nursing home rather than one on one care at home. Many seniors would rather recover at home if they could afford it.
Three fourths of seniors go to a nursing home for recovery after hospitalization. This is because Medicare/Medicare supplements and Senior HMO’s pay for the first 100 days of recovery after a three day hospital stay, in a nursing home.
Medicare pays for less than half of home care. Home health care benefits have serious deficiencies today.
Home health care can be a big advantage in the recovery of patients. In a familiar home environment, patients can recover much better that they would at nursing homes. In addition the recovery can be much faster as well. Keeping this in mind there should be good home health care benefits for seniors available on the market.
