As is the case with any type of insurance coverage that you buy there will be a different premium quoted for one insurance company against the other. Some insurance companies structure pay for their employees differently while others cut back in costs in other ways to make things cheaper for you. With Medigap insurance, or Medicare Supplement Insurance, this idea is no different from other kinds of insurance.
If you are trying to figure out why one Medigap quote is higher than the other, here are some things to consider:
Discounts for women, non-smokers, or people who are married; discounts for paying annually; or discounts for paying your premiums using electronic funds transfer could affect the premium quoted.
Medicare Select policies require you to go to certain facilities or see certain doctors, if you are being quoted for this it could make your premium lower. This is a common factor in health insurance policies of all kinds as the company can make a deal with a doctor to get discounted treatment, which causes your premium to be lower.
Some Medigap policies are quoted for a higher deductible option that will eventually cost you more out-of-pocket. Beware of this as the premium looks great but the deductible will cost you an arm and leg.
