Insurance companies are notorious for making it tough to understand policies due to small and seemingly insignificant policy language. With pre-existing conditions this is definitely the truth when you are discussing health insurance. When changing from one Medigap policy to another this is definitely something that you should consider.
You must consider what pre-existing conditions are covered under your current Medigap policy before you switch to your new one. When you are covered under your existing policy you will want to make sure the new plan covers it as well before you go starting the policy. Not checking and following through could cause no coverage to be extended for up to 6 months.
The Medigap insurer has the right to deny coverage for your pre-existing coverage for the first 6 months that you are insured with them. When you have already had your Medigap policy for 6 months or more and then you switch the new carrier must start coverage immediately. Before you switch Medigap policies you will want to make sure that all of this has been researched and confirmed.
