Sometimes the most important part of an insurance policy isn’t what it is, but rather what it isn’t, or what it doesn’t cover. This is really important when you are considering what Medigap (Medicare Supplement Insurance) plan to choose, or if you even need one. Below are a few things that are not covered by these Medigap plans, making it easier for you to decide how to protect your physical future.
You cannot get long-term care (like care in a nursing home), vision or dental care, hearing aids, eyeglasses, or private duty nursing from a Medigap plan. For some reason Medicare and the Medigap insurance policy setters have decided that these types of care and those listed below are not possible.
• Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C), like an HMO, PPO, or Private Fee-for-Service Plan
• Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)
• Medicaid
• Employer or union plans, including the Federal Employees Health
Benefits Program (FEHBP)
• TRICARE
• Veterans’ benefits
• Long-term care insurance policies
• Indian Health Service, Tribal, and Urban Indian Health plans
