Insurance and government are two separate entities that operate in similar ways by covering up so much of what they do in legal jargon. When you combine the two worlds you start to get really confused and the people who pay for the coverage start to get lost. Medicare policyholders have the option to buy Medigap (or Medicare Supplement Insurance) policies that help to pay for what Medicare doesn’t, but you must know a few things about these policies.
Specifically, you should know what Medicare Select policies are when you are signing up to get Medigap insurance. When you choose the option of getting a Medicare Select policy you are getting a policy that will be cheaper, but will also have fewer options. Instead of choosing what doctor or medical facility you want to use for services, you are told what to use.
When Medigap insurance companies set up their agreements with doctors they can get discounts on services provided, decreasing what they would have to pay. Since they would have to pay less to cover you they can pass the savings on to you so you will get insurance with them. The opportunity is great if you happen to be alright with being told where to go for medical services.
