The Republican health proposal that would have required small businesses to offer limited health insurance created by the state has been shot down. The proposal was opposed by nine people and was not supported by anyone. This led it to be postponed indefinitely.
The aim of the plan was to insure uninsured workers lacking health insurance testified Swalm. The bill did not require employers to pay for the plan, but the would have needed to offer a pre tax savings plan that would help employees afford the insurance.
Two plans were proposed by Swalm. These were to cost individuals over $200 a month and would cover expenses of $35,000 to $50,000. Since unreimbursed medical costs are passed to private insurers by hospitals, premiums for members often increase. This leads to higher health care costs.
According to Swalm, a little insurance was much better than no insurance. On the other hand his opponents said that the plan was ineffective in catastrophic instances.
