Medicare insurance plans have never been known for being perfect and this is kind of what started the entire idea of Medigap to begin with. After plans were created and care started to be provided everyone started to realize that things were missing. This caused the creation of Medicare supplement insurance, or Medigap, to help fill in the gaps left by Medicare.
When you think about Medigap you shouldn’t compare it to the coverage known as Medicare Advantage because that coverage provides extra benefits beyond Medicare. Medigap insurance simply fills in the gaps that Medicare left behind for you to find a way to fill in. This means if you are in a situation where you use Medicare a lot for medical services you may need the benefits of a Medigap plan.
Coinsurance on your Medicare plan along with copayments and even skilled nursing care is possible when you get the extra care afforded by Medigap plans. This means that you will get help with that coverage, not necessarily that it will all be taken care of for you. Now that you know what Medigap is you can begin to prepare for what type of Medigap coverage you need.
