Medigap Plans K and L will offer you a different take on the Medigap approach by giving you some assistance with what previous Medigap plans offer, though only a percentage. In order to understand these plans you have to look at them as an offer to get more than Medicare coverage while still getting slightly less than the other Medigap Plans. Let’s take a look at the differences.
First, Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs are covered just the same as every other Medigap plan does. In addition, Plans K and L of Medigap do not offer assistance with the Medicare Part B deductible or excess charges and there is no Foreign Travel Emergency plan. Instead, Medigap offers a percentage of assistance with the other options.
Medicare Part B Coinsurance or Copayment, Blood, Part A Hospice Care Copayment or Coinsurance, Skilled Nursing Facility Care Coinsurance and the Medicare Part A Deductible are covered at 50% for Medigap Plan K. For Medigap Plan L these are all covered at 75%. The other difference between the two is that Plan K has an Out-of-Pocket Limit of $4,640 and Plan L has an Out-of-Pocket Limit of $2,320.
