When you are buying your Medigap (Medicare Supplement Insurance) policy from an insurance company it is always good to know your rights. Insurance companies, sometimes rightfully so, have a bad reputation for giving inaccurate information when selling insurance policies. Remember with Medigap policies that all insurance companies must play by the same rules.
It is expressly illegal for any insurance company to pressure you in to switching from one Medigap policy to another. This practice may be in place with other types of insurance but should not be a part of any kind of Medicare coverage, supplement or otherwise. It is important that insurance companies give you the specifics of their policy and nothing more.
If you feel like an insurance company is pressuring you into using their Medigap policy you should contact the state insurance department. Let the state know of the situation that you are in and that you feel that you have been wronged. Move on to other insurance companies and continue your search for the right Medicare Supplement insurance policy.
