There are times when you feel like you are in the wrong insurance plan and you are prepared to switch to something that seems better. When it seems that something is obviously better than something else it doesn’t always work out. When you switch to Medicare Advantage from Medigap you still have the option of going back if you do things just right.
If you have been in the Medicare Advantage plan for less than a year you need to call your provider and explain that you want to disenroll. You must give them a date for this to be effective and this date has to also be within a year of when you started on the plan. At this point you are able to call back to the Medigap plan provider that you had before you switched to Medicare Advantage.
When you call back to the Medigap provider it is important that you confirm first that they still offer Medigap policies. If they do so then you have a few options available to you to get started in getting back on your Medigap plan. If they do not you probably should stop your disenrollment in Medicare Advantage so that you still have some coverage for the dates in between.
If your former Medigap policy isn’t available, you have the right to buy a Medigap Plan A, B, C, or F that is sold in your state by any insurance company. You can buy the Medigap policy at the best premium price available, with no review of your medical records even if you have health problems. You will have from 60 calendar days before your coverage ends until 63 calendar days after your coverage ends to apply for a new Medigap policy.
