This question is frequently asked and answered in the back-and-forth understanding between Medicare subscribers and experts in the field. The bottom line for the answer is this, Medicare Supplement policies (or Medigap) have to pay for the services if you are paying for their services. How these payments are handled may differ, but in the end the amount paid and the fact that it will be paid remains the same.
When it comes to your Medicare Part B services you sign an agreement in your Medigap policy that states you will have them take care of payment with your doctor directly. This means that you shouldn’t ever see a bill for your Part B coverage but if you do you shouldn’t freak out, just forward it to your Medigap policy contacts. The same process can work for Medicare Part A, you may have to request that it works that way instead of automatically being processed.
If your Medigap policy is not set to pay directly with your doctor you should ask your doctor if they participate in Medicare, or accept Medicare assignments. If they do your Medigap policy is required to handle the payments directly with the doctor, so make sure they are aware. You should be able to set your Medicare and Medicare Supplement Insurance policies on cruise control if you want to.
